What is Fat? and How we get Fat?

Undoubtedly, You are interested to know how a portion of your favourite pizza you had last week is now safe and stored under that belly.

Let's suppose,

It's Friday Night and you decided to have a Pizza party with all your lovely buddies.

You meet your buddies at 7'o clock in the evening, chat/gossip, order cheese burst pizzas, add oregano and Chilli flakes, and you enjoy having that lip-smacking pizza.

What happens next to that pizza?.

With the help of this article, we will try to understand How that pizza managed to get around that belly?.

Without any further delay, Let's get started!

Fats are non-active tissues which get stored in our body.

These tissues have a plethora of energy which will be used by our body shortly if there is no or low availability of food.

We are talking about the Fat within our body and not the fats in the nutrition.

During times of stone age due to less availability of food, our body has evolved to store extra energy in these tissues so that we can use these energies in the future when required.

If we are ever Fortunate enough to analyze fat and derive its chemical structure, It would look something like this.

Chemical structure of fat(Triglycerides)

Different type of fats are:

  1. White Fat.

  2. Brown Fat.

  3. Belly Fat.

  4. Visceral Fat.

  5. Subcutaneous Fat.

We aim to understand only about fats in general.

Fat is one of the essential tissue for our wellbeing, yet anything in excess is harmful.

Responsibilities of fat:

  1. Releasing hormones.

  2. Shield our muscles and organs from outside bumps.

  3. Provide heat and protection to our body.

  4. Store and metabolize fat-soluble vitamins.

As now we understand the role and responsibilities, Let's talk about

How we store Fat?.

I'm afraid that there is no straight forward answer to that, as it is a Biological process happening due to a variety of conditions.

Accumulation of fat doesn't happen in one day or one week. It is a byproduct of regular implementation of not so good Lifestyle.

Let's have a look at one of the conditions our body experiences which is responsible for the accumulation of the Body Fat.

It is the excessive consumption of carbohydrates and sugars.

Our Indian diets are mostly very dense in Carbohydrates.

Due to the enzymatic reaction on carbohydrates/sugar, our body converts them into glucose.

We will understand further process with an example.

Let's imagine an empty bucket, The task is to fill water into that bucket to the fullest. To fully utilize the bucket we have to pour water until it overflows.

We have used this example to explain the requirement of carbohydrates.

But now when there is an overflow of glucose, Your body doesn't simply discard it.

It converts excess glucose into fats and stores it so that it can fulfil our future caloric requirements when required.

This process is known as"Lipogenesis" (Lipo - Lipids/Fats - and Genesis - Creation).
